Therapy for Anxiety

Do You Feel Stuck In A Endless Loop Of Stress And Anxiety?

Are you so overwhelmed by worrying all the time that you’re frozen in place, unable to find a way forward on your own? Do you often feel:

● restless, distraught, on edge, or hypervigilant?

● irritable, defensive, angry, or short-fused?

● unmotivated, exhausted, physically sore or nauseous?

Perhaps you’re a college student who is having trouble navigating academics, roommate life, or your path toward the future. Or maybe you’re a working mother who is so overburdened that anxiety therapy looks like your only chance to find peace and balance.

Anxiety Can Complicate Your Life In Profound Ways

At work, you may struggle with perfectionism, rejection sensitivity, or imposter syndrome, so you end up second-guessing yourself a lot. The negative self-talk and intrusive thoughts make it hard to concentrate, let your guard down, or even recognize your own self-worth.

In relationships, you may wall yourself off or lack boundaries, which means either you can’t get close to your partner or you lean on them in unhealthy ways. You probably worry that you’ll wear out family and friends by talking too much about your thoughts and feelings, so you simply withdraw. Or maybe you’re “over-partying” or over-indulging to numb your pain.

At Bozeman Counseling Center, we understand that anxiety can get in the way of everything, but with the right support, it is possible to stop worrying all the time. Our compassionate

anxiety therapists want to guide you to a place where you’re calmer, more self-confident, and more well-balanced in all aspects of your life.

Anxiety Has Always Been Fairly Common In Our Society

However, the long-term stress sustained since the COVID-19 pandemic began has significantly impacted people’s mental health.(1)(2) In fact, within the past year, an estimated 19.1 percent of U.S. adults reported having anxiety. Although anxiety disorders are increasingly common, only a fraction of individuals ever seek therapy.(3)(4)

Some of anxiety’s precipitating or contributing factors often include the combined stress of: ● academics, big transitions, or life as a professional

● parenting, caregiving, and being a good partner

● the news and our toxic political landscape

● social media and our obsession with doomscrolling.

In Bozeman, Montana, We Have Additional Stressors

We deal with high housing costs, lower-paying jobs (respectively), and limited career opportunities. Childcare is expensive and hard to find. Most households have two earners, making it extra tough for moms who typically bear the mental load of kids, school, and activities.

As the home of Montana State University, we also host a lot of students who are away from their parents for the first time, which can be stressful. In a valley full of small towns, people can feel lonely, isolated, and confused as to where they fit in. And let’s not forget our long, cold winters that feed the loop of depression and anxiety.

Despite those very real forces, there is a way to feel better. Working with our anxiety therapists at Bozeman Counseling Center can help you reduce stress, overcome longstanding challenges, and manage symptoms more effectively.

Anxiety Therapy Is The Talking Cure

When anxiety has you stuck, spinning around and around, it’s imperative to connect with an objective, non-biased person like a therapist who can help you achieve real change. Our anxiety counselors are specially trained to heal trauma, interrupt negative patterns, and foster healthy attachments.

We can provide you with coping skills and human connection—and help troubleshoot what things are working and not working from week to week. Therapy also gives you a safe space to be and explore yourself—to identify what your needs, wants, and values are.

You’ll be seen and heard without judgment while having a “corrective experience” with someone who really understands and responds differently than friends, family, and partners.

Our anxiety therapists at Bozeman Counseling Center do more than nod our heads and say, "Uhhum." We prefer to be interactive, providing ideas, resources, and tools our clients can use to stabilize their nervous system.

Therapy for anxiety is like a talking cure in that there’s lots of back-and-forth discussion with humor and lightness often finding their way into sessions. So you can expect laughter and tears, empowerment and healing, and real change happening in sessions.

What Kind Of Topics Do We Explore In Anxiety Treatment?

Many times, the root of anxiety is past trauma, unmet needs, lack of connection, ongoing stressful situations, or family of origin issues. So, we want to work with you to discover what the underlying cause of your experience with anxiety might be. Being able to name the "WHY" tends to provide the first amount of relief for most people.

We’ll also give you tools and resources for minimizing symptoms that are showing up in everyday situations so you have something to use immediately. Then, we’ll start the real work of “re-wiring” your nervous systems to achieve homeostasis (stability), which reduces anxiety long term.

How Do We Approach Anxiety Counseling?

Our anxiety disorder specialists at Bozeman Counseling Center offer both holistic and evidence-based treatment options that can be customized to each client’s needs and goals for therapy. We’re trained to look at all aspects of a person, working holistically within the many domains of the client’s life, including work, relationships, spirituality, life transitions, etc.

We’re also trauma-informed and eclectic in our approach to healing, drawing from a spectrum of anxiety treatment methods:

● Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT for anxiety) creates change by exploring the intersection of thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors.

● Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT for anxiety) is a skills-based approach to improving emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

● Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT for anxiety) helps clients make changes where possible while embracing thoughts and feelings (versus trying to change them).

● Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR for anxiety) is particularly helpful in instances where trauma is the underlying cause of distress.

BCC is unique in that we also incorporate coaching techniques into our anxiety counseling sessions, which can be very helpful for individuals focused on specific solutions. We also use measurement-based care tools, including an app called Blueprint, that allows clients to prepare for sessions and track symptoms between appointments.

The Pain And Struggles That Come With Anxiety Can Get Better

At Bozeman Counseling Center, we pride ourselves on providing our clients with tangible, proven tools they can use to help manage anxiety and create real change in their lives. Doing it alone is hard, but when you have the support, encouragement, guidance, and knowledge of a skilled therapist, it can make all the difference.

Our brains and nervous systems are wired to be able to heal and find balance again. So why not let us help you get to a place where you feel less stressed, more balanced, and fully capable of living your best life?

Perhaps You Still Have Concerns About Anxiety Therapy…

How long will it take for my anxiety to improve and go away?

Anxiety often develops over the course of many years, so it may require more than a few weeks to see a shift in things. We typically like to work with our clients on a weekly basis for at least 12 to 16 weeks.

However, if the root cause of anxiety is related to trauma, neurodiversity, or family-of-origin issues, longer treatment may be necessary. That said, you ultimately control the pace and frequency of sessions.

As a capable individual, I should be able to control my anxiety without therapy.

Anxiety can be so overwhelming it completely takes over our mind and body, our energy and relationships, and even our view of ourselves. When this built-in biological stress response goes into hyperdrive, it can be tough to turn off, so it keeps our nervous system in perpetual flight or flight mode.

Because it’s so all-encompassing, anxiety can be nearly impossible to navigate without support. Thankfully, our counselors are specially trained and equipped with tools that can help you break out of that anxiety loop for good.

I've gone to counseling in the past for my anxiety, and I'm not sure it helped.

Our therapists at BCC are different. We’re very interactive and engaging—and we provide effective tools and resources to use between sessions. We also utilize coaching techniques to help you quickly make changes and get relief from anxiety.

We work through a trauma-based lens and provide neurodivergent-affirming care, making sure to rule out other diagnoses like ADHD and ASD. And we offer somatic therapy for addressing anxiety on a mind-body level. So we tackle anxiety from every angle possible to ensure that healing and change occur.
